Las arandelas planas se utilizan para aumentar la superficie de los sujetadores, con el fin de distribuir uniformemente la fuerza aplicada al apretarlos a una superficie. También se utilizan para evitar que se aflojen debido a la vibración, para evitar que el perno o el tornillo se salga y actúan como espaciadores. Están fabricados en acero y galvanizados y se fabrican según la norma ASME B18.21.1.
